Recall lookup

A safety recall means the manufacturer or NHTSA found a defect that poses an unreasonable safety risk. The repair is free at any franchised dealer for your make, regardless of the vehicle's age, mileage or how many owners it has had.

How recalls work

Recall repairs are free. There is no expiry on a safety recall for most vehicles, and a dealer cannot charge you for the work or require that you bought the car from them.

A recall is not the same as a technical service bulletin. A TSB is guidance to technicians about a known problem and its fix; it is usually not free. A recall is a safety defect the manufacturer must correct at no cost.

Search by VIN for the most accurate answer. This page searches by year, make and model, which shows every recall issued for that vehicle line. Whether a particular car still needs the work depends on its VIN — use our VIN decoder or ask a dealer.
